Dan Barge III, P.E.
Founder (retired)
Dan’s civil engineering career began at Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon in 1976, where he steadily progressed from surveyor to technician, client manager, and was named a vice president in 1992. Throughout his career, his assignments varied from being a field engineer at the 1982 World’s Fair in Knoxville, a design engineer contracted to Nissan Motor Manufacturing Corporation during their plant construction and startup, to a client/project manager on civil engineering efforts of the $36 million Nashville Thermal Transfer Corporation expansion in 1984.
After founding Barge Cauthen & Associates, Inc., Dan led BCA for 30 years with a focus on building long-term relationships, consistently executing high-quality work, and growing leaders from within. He pioneered relationships with some of BCA’s longest tenured clients, including Vanderbilt University and H.G. Hill. In 2016 and 2017, Dan was named as a “Power Leader of Commercial Development” by the Nashville Business Journal. Dan retired from Barge Civil Associates in 2024.
